Do you ever feel disconnected, or out of touch with the rest of the world? Have you ever felt like there wasn’t a judgment-free listening ear around, or a space to allow your excitability to be what it was always meant to be? For the Over Excitable woman, it is easy to feel alienated. Simone de Hoogh, this week’s guest on Embracing Intensity, experienced that herself, since no one in the UK really “talks about” emotions, excitability, and Giftedness.

Simone gets what it means to be Over Excitable, and has learned throughout the years that embracing her inner fire means helping others understand their own. She knows that as we learn more and more about Over Excitability, the need for a safe space to share our experiences grows. It followed that she might just need to create one, and so she founded Powerwood, a camp for families with Over Excitable and Gifted children to come together without fear of judgment or misunderstanding. This week on Embracing Intensity, listen to Simone’s wisdom and experience caring for those she loves, and giving back to a community that needs her.

More in this Week’s Episode:

  • Learn how Powerwood got its start
  • See how neurological diversity can create a positive change
  • Experience with Simone the emotions of the first ever Powerwood camp

For the parent of an intensely gifted child (or for intensely gifted adults in general) finding a supportive community can seem like an impossible task. It’s a bit like an expedition into an uncertain wilderness. When a child is identified as gifted, many parents find themselves thrown into in unexplored territory without so much as a guide for the trip. Caitlin Fitzpatrick Curley found herself in that spot when her child entered Kindergarten. It was then that she became an unlikely homeschooler, and found she could embrace her own intensity by founding an online community for Homeschool parents.

In this week’s episode of Embracing Intensity, Aurora and Cait discuss challenges to overcome and triumphs to be had as the parents of Gifted children. As an Excitable woman herself, Cait knew that she could not successfully tackle the task on her own. Cait shares her journey as a homeschooling mother, and how that led her to create the Raising Poppies online community for other parents just like her. Listen to hear how the world is just a bit smaller than you might think!

In this week’s episode:

  • How did a school psychologist become a homeschooling mom, blogger, and podcaster?
  • Learn how Cait holds herself up during times of stress and uncertainty.
  • The dynamics of a school district, and finding an education plan that suits a gifted child.
  • Can focusing on just the next 6 months make an impact on your family?
  • Become a part of the Raising Poppies online community.
  • Hear how a focus on transparency about the pros and hurdles of homeschooling has led so many people to connect with Cait’s online community.
